Ancient Doorways (entry 2)

These are doorways from Emperor Hadrian's villa. They are of course now the bare bones how the huge villa looked. It's amazing to think of the ancient people who walked through these doors.

These are doorways from the Roman Forum. The top is random gate and the bottom is the entrance to a Roman temple.

The Pantheon. An Roman Temple designed and built in the Emperor Hadrian's reign by an Architect of named Apollodorus of Damascus. During Christian times, the temple was redesigned to be a church. One thing about Rome, they like to recycle buildings (as well as building materials). If there was a pagan temple, it often wasn't destroyed but recycled into either a church or a palace. The right photo shows the closed doorway very late at night. The left photo shows the open doorway with its the more common mass of tourists.
